Chocomize: Lighting DesignWithout a Single Visible Downlight

Chocomize is a luxury chocolate bar and café opening in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with interiors built around sculptural, arched ceiling forms, an indoor mini-garden, and a material palette blending Playful Modern color with Wabi-Sabi textures. Aluzo developed the full lighting concept for the space.

The ceiling’s geometry ruled out standard downlights, so Aluzo used concealed linear lighting aimed upward, reflecting light off the ceiling to provide general illumination. Aluzo verified the design against CIBSE lux standards using lighting simulation, hitting 300 lux across the showroom.

To keep products as the visual focus, Aluzo layered focused display and accent lighting on top: shelf spotlights, projectors, LED cove lighting at the task counter, and a custom grazing washer on the centerpiece chocolate fountain. Creating clear hierarchy between the space, the products, and the seating areas, without a single visible downlight anywhere in the store.
