La Perle: Facade Lighting Design
Located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, La Perle is a contemporary commercial and office development defined by a clean architectural language and a composition of distinct volumes. The lighting design was developed to reinforce the project’s architectural identity after dark, using light as a tool to enhance form, hierarchy, and visual contrast.
Lighting Concept
The lighting strategy was conceived to complement the building’s modern architectural expression while preserving its simplicity and clarity. Rather than uniformly illuminating the facade, the design introduces carefully controlled layers of light that distinguish the building’s primary architectural elements and create a strong nighttime presence.
Through the strategic use of contrast, the facade remains visually engaging while maintaining a refined and balanced appearance.
Contrast & Architectural Hierarchy
A key aspect of the lighting design was the creation of contrasting layers across the facade. Different lighting techniques, intensities, and color temperatures were employed to emphasize the relationship between the building’s various volumes.
Architectural modules are distinguished through variations in illumination, while the main vertical volumes are emphasized using contrasting color temperatures. This selective approach strengthens the building’s rhythm and hierarchy, allowing its composition to be clearly understood after dark.
By highlighting significant architectural features rather than uniformly lighting the facade, the design enhances visual clarity and establishes a distinctive nighttime identity aligned with the project’s contemporary character.
